Kiran Sarnaik Wins Amravati Teachers' Constituency Again, Defeats Congress Candidate
Kiran Sarnaik has secured a second consecutive victory in the Amravati Teachers' Constituency election. Find out how the Mahayuti candidate crossed the 16,134-vote quota, defeated Congress candidate Aditi Pohare and overcame rebellion within the Shinde faction.
The victory came after an intense counting process in which no candidate could secure the required quota through first-preference votes. The quota for declaring a winner in the Amravati Teachers' Constituency election was fixed at 16,134 votes out of the total valid votes polled.
However, the first-preference counting failed to produce a candidate who could reach the निर्धारित quota. The contest was subsequently decided through second-preference vote counting, during which Sarnaik successfully secured the required number of votes to establish his victory.
The election results placed Kiran Sarnaik in first position, followed by Aditi Pohare, the Congress candidate representing the Maha Vikas Aghadi. Shrikant Deshpande, a rebel candidate from the Shinde faction, finished third.
Sarnaik had previously contested the 2020 election as an independent candidate and emerged victorious. Before the current election, he joined the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde and secured the official Mahayuti nomination.
With the backing of the Mahayuti alliance and his personal network of contacts, Sarnaik once again demonstrated his electoral strength in the Amravati Teachers' Constituency.
The election had also attracted considerable attention because of Sarnaik's family connections. The victorious candidate is the maternal cousin of former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and the maternal uncle of Wardha MP Amar Kale.
These political and family associations had made the election a closely watched contest across the state. Sarnaik's victory ultimately came after overcoming rebellion within the Shinde faction and defeating the Congress candidate, allowing him to retain his position in the Amravati Teachers' Constituency.
The outcome marks Sarnaik's second consecutive victory in the constituency and reinforces his electoral standing following his shift from an independent candidate to the official Mahayuti nominee.
